Ann Klavora, AICP
Ann Klavora, AICP, is the Principal and Owner of akPlans, LLC. She is an experienced professional urban planner and project manager with a passion for placemaking and plan implementation. Ann nurtures great places and brings plans to life by harnessing the power of big ideas through collaboration, creative thinking and attention to detail. She is a certified planner through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and an EcoDistricts Accredited Professional.
Prior to founding akPlans, LLC in 2020, Ann worked for 22 years as a planner in both the private and public sectors. From 2005 to 2020, she managed all aspects of multiple public realm planning projects (from idea through construction) for the City of Shaker Heights, Ohio, including bicycle/pedestrian planning, streetscape improvements, transit-oriented development (TOD), multimodal transportation and public art projects.
She developed excellent working relationships with many Ohio engineering and design consultants, local government leaders and regional/state organization staff, including GCRTA, NOACA and ODOT D12.
Ann was an integral member of the core multi-disciplinary team responsible for planning and implementing the Van Aken District, a $119M public-private TOD redevelopment project (Phase 1 completed in 2019). These planning efforts were awarded the Gold 2019 National Planning Achievement Award for Implementation from the American Planning Association and the 2019 Focused Built Project Award from APA Ohio.
Ann is a longtime active member of the American Planning Association at the local and state level. She was elected President of APA Ohio for the 2013-2014 term and has served several terms as Director of the APA Cleveland Section. She has organized many successful APA Cleveland Planning & Zoning Workshops and co-chaired two statewide APA Ohio Planning Conferences.
